Europe’s network of Broadband Competence Offices works with the European Commission each year to build capacity and accelerate high-speed broadband deployment to all citizens across the EU and even beyond. The 2022-23 Activity Report presents the main activities, focus areas and highlights from the past year.

The European Broadband Competence Offices Network is supported on an annual basis by a dedicated Support Facility established by the European Commission. The 2023-24 Annual Work Plan Summary outlines the Support Facility’s objectives, activities and focus areas for this year.

Silvanus enables combatting wildfires through early and well-informed decision-making, by bringing new technologies to the forefront of rural communities and forest regions. This project is EU-funded under the Horizon 2020 programme.

The French Outermost Region of Guadeloupe deployed submarine broadband cables between its 8 islands and to the mainland, bringing greater resilience and opportunities for the region’s inhabitants. This project was EU-funded under the European Regional Development Fund.

This transnational project, in Spain and the Czech Republic, used smart technology to re-open museums and cultural centres that had been closed to the public due to lack of funding. The project received EU funding and was nominated for the ‘Digital Futures’ category of the 2022 EU Rural Inspiration Awards.

Kosovo has succeeded in bringing high-speed broadband access to its entire territory.

The Romanian national Broadband Competence Office (BCO) brought high-speed broadband connectivity to thousands of rural households and public and private institutions through its Ro-NET project. This project was EU-funded under the European Regional Development Fund.

‘My Pig’ is a digital project aiming to promote better animal welfare in agricultural meat production, and greater understanding among consumers of animal farming practices. The project received EU funding and was nominated for the ‘Digital Futures’ category of the 2022 EU Rural Inspiration Awards.
